Is There A Noticable Difference Between A Suntan And A Tanning Bed Tan?

I’m pretty pale right now, and i’m in need of a tan. I think tanning in the sun is too time consuming and difficult so I wan’t to goto a tanning bed.

If I went to the tanning bed maybe twice a week for 1-2 weeks..and then stopped and just stayed out in the sun more often. Could people notice it’s a tanning bed tan and not a real sun tan?

I heard if you tan to much in a tanning bed, you’ll get orange-ish, unless im wrong? What color do people normally get in a tanning bed and from the sun?

What do you recommend I do? like how many times should I do it? I just want some color, I don’t want to be dark.

Thanks.

  1. i think there is a little bit of a difference, but as long as you dont go everyday and just get a good base tan until you can get in the sun more is a good idea.

  2. now and then says:

    not really
and suntans take longer and are more likeley to cause cancer

  3. It really depends on the quality of the tanning bed you go to, if it is not very good you might turn orange or un-naturally dark, like my friend, then you can tell its not real. You have to get it just right! If not you’ll be in a jam!

  4. well depends on how quik u wanta tan i use tannin beds alot bu tim dark they go by min like i would start at 5 min til u get use to it and use a tanner with it …like 3 times a weeek maybe then yea stay in sun an it helps too….use sunblock on your face in tannin bed tho ok…… work your min up ti lu get use to bed so u wont burn too easily oh an always wear eye protection in bed too

Definately go to a tanning salon. Do a Tanning Bed and then a Mystic Tan. You’ll look the same as you would if you went in the sun. Do that a couple times a week and you’ll be tan for a long time. When I tan I put stickers on me and when I’m done tanning I take them off and I can see an imprint. I can see the imprint for weeks usually. No, you won’t turn orange.

There is a difference in the two as far as color. In the tanning bed, you develop a more even tan than in the sun. The only reason people turn orange in a tanning bed is because they are using lotions that have bronzers in them. YUK! I am a tanner and Im like you, I want to look natural. Here is what I do. I spend two weeks before tanning hydrating. I drink plenty of water and keep lotion on my skin. I buy a month at a tanning salon. Before my session, I take a hot shower to open my pores. I use a gentle tanning lotion that has no bronzers and no tingle factor. I dont shower for 2 hours afterwards because if you do, it cools your skin down. After shower, I lotion with regular lotion. I do this for one month to get a base tan. I go back once a week after that and continue my outside work as usual. The tanning for a month gets you the base tan so its easier to tan in the sun. Hope this helps. GL!

  7. There is absolutely no difference — one happens to be artificial UV rays and one happens to be natural. The only difference you might see is that if you lay funny like with your arms squished against your sides, you will have a weird and unnatural gradation of color.

Either way though, TANNING IS HORRIBLE FOR YOU. Sun or tanning salons BOTH HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO GIVE YOU SKIN CANCER. Tanning is the reaction your skin has to DNA mutation in the melanin cells of your skin. Mutation of melanin is what produces the tan and will ultimately produce age spots and melanoma.

If you want color, get the spray-on kind. The ‘orange-ish’ color you are referring to is the old fashioned spray-on/lotion tanning systems, but there are plenty of them that look natural now.

I work in a tanning salon and to get a really good base tan you need to tan at least every other day for a week or so. Start off in small amounts (You don’t want to burn). The gradually add time to your tanning. (Beds vary in time and size). Use an indoor tanning solution only. There is no difference from tanning indoors to outdoors. If you use a bronzing tanning lotion before you have a base tan it will turn you yellow or an orange-ish color. Once you get the base tan, going outside will just add color and make you darker. I hope this helps! Good luck.

  9. You won’t really be able to see a difference just make sure you dont overdo a bronzer if you decide to do one. That is what gives you a orange look. Use a stand up bed so you get a even all over tan.

  10. Outside tans look natural. Since you’re pale, if you tan in a bed too much, you’ll look orange. Not attractive at all. If you have the time, go in a bed to get a base tan then do things outside to build up the more naturally looking one! Since I’m Mexican, my skins like olive-y so in a tanning bed it turns golden.. most people’s skin doesn’t though. DO NOT GET A SPRAY TAN. It looks worse than over tanning, plus it’s gross feeling. That looks even more fake, because well, it is! Get like a 2 week package and go everyday.. you’ll get a nice base tan that won’t fade in two days….

no it looks just fine, but you do wanna go ahead and get your base tan first. i reccomend using a high pressure bed about 3-4 days in a row, and then you can use regular beds for about a couple times a week. but if your lookin to get a tan right away you may wanna try the spray on too, it really does look awesome if you do it right, jus t make sure you exfoliate before hand.

  12. I think most people freckle more in the sun so it looks a little more natural. Thats about it.

A tanning bed tan is normally more even since it gets your entire body.
