What Is Five Minutes In A Tanning Bed Equal To, In The Sun?

I burn very easily, and it normally only takes about two hours in the sun with high SPF for me to fry. If I use a tanning bed for about five minutes, how much time in the sun would that be equal to?
By the way, I have to tan — I’m going to the Caribbean on a cruise over the summer, and if I don’t add a bit of color, I will probably die there; or at least be forced to stay in my room the entire time.
I don’t need a lecture, people. I know it’s dangerous. Please, just answer the question. That’s all I’m here for.

That would be the same time as being in the sun. Since you seem to have burned before I would not even consider using a tanning bed as you are already at greater risk for developing skin cancer.

If you burn easily stay out of a tanning bed! You will fry in a matter of minutes. Plus this is not healthy for your skin…if you cant accept being pale or white try the mistic tan or whatever spray tanning there is. Always use at least a SPF 30 when you are in the sun.

It will equal skin cancer some day and you’ll ask yourself was it worth it to be tan. No.

Agh! Getting a “base” tan is the most dangerous thing you can do. The reason that your skin burns (in the caribbean) is to let you know that it’s being damaged…and that you need to protect it and stay out of the sun sooner! Getting a base tan, damages your skin FIRST and then it’s less easier to notice the more severe skin damage you’re doing.

Depends on the bed. If you burn easily, you are going to burn even easier in a bed. They say one “session” in a standard bed is equal to a whole day’s worth of sun. Since you burn easy, I wouldn’t go for even five minutes, start off with two, and work your way up. Read the chart located on the inside of the bed, it will give a reccomended tanning program usually over 4-6 weeks based on your skin color, though I should warn you, it will tell you that you shouldn’t be in the bed at all, so follow the directions for the next level up, no more. Make sure you at least cover up areas that aren’t typically exposed to the sun, because you are more prone to burn in those areas. Be careful, don’t overdo it, it will be expensive but start slowly. Stay out of high-pressure beds and stick with an entry-level bed. Good luck :)

  6. I do not know. But in the sun you will get Vitamin D so very important for the development of your bones. It is you choice.
